Bridgeport Generation Now Votes is excited to announce that we are set to mail Bridgeport voters Connecticut’s guidelines and applications for voting by mail for those who may qualify. The letter accompanied by the application explicitly states that it is not nor intended to be in support of or against any candidate running for office and directs all further inquiries to the office of the Secretary of The State. The mailer, in English and in Spanish will go to approximately 19,000 primary voters.

Protecting Our Most Vulnerable Voters

By mailing voters information about their rights and who is legally eligible to vote by mail using an absentee ballot, we move one step closer to fulfilling our mission of protecting the voting rights of our most vulnerable populations.

That’s why, as part of 3 statewide voting rights coalitions, CT Safe Vote, the Make It Count Coalition Steering Committee and the Connecticut Voting Rights Act Coalition led by the NAACP’s Legal Defense Fund, Bridgeport Generation Now Votes has been working to expand voting rights and protections. We are clear that for Bridgeport voters, these types of structural changes can lead to greater voter trust and participation:

1) expand the role of the Election Monitor;

2) allow early voting and no-excuse absentee voting;

3) restrict the time period that AB applications are available before elections;

4) remove partisan operatives from the absentee voting process; and

5) pass the Connecticut Voting Rights Act to protect Bridgeport voters of color.

We are proud of the voting rights successes we’ve had this legislative session. We secured funding for an Election Monitor, early voting is being implemented for 2024, no-excuse absentee voting will be a referendum question on the 2024 ballot and the Connecticut Voting Rights Act is now the law of the land.

Bridgeport Generation Now Votes is fighting to strengthen democracy and protect voting rights through legislation, litigation, and grassroots organizing and we believe no one should come between voters and our access to the ballot.
