Yesterday, Mayor Joe Ganim delivered his “State of the City” address at a private, ticketed event at the Amphitheater organized by the Bridgeport Business Regional Council.

As reported in the CT Post, “there were no major announcements Wednesday,” as “Ganim listed accomplishments… some of which have been highlighted in past years’ speeches too, showing how long it can take for progress here to happen.”

FROM CT PUBLIC: Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim delivered the annual State of the City address Wednesday. Ganim painted a rosy picture of the city’s economic future and said the city is doing better than ever.

Callie Heilmann, the co-director of Bridgeport Generation Now Votes, a nonprofit civic engagement organization, said the state of the city isn’t all that great.

“He doubled down on his vision and strategy that has been clear since he came back in 2015, which is to use the power of his office to benefit himself and a select group of friends and cronies,” Heilmann said.

Heilmann listed several issues, from what she characterized as a lack of funding for the city’s schools keeping pace with inflation, to high turnover within Ganim’s administration, and the city’s blocking of affordable housing at Steele Point.

… Ganim is now facing off against several primary challengers, including incumbent State Senator Marilyn Moore, his former aide John Gomes and Lamond Daniels. Bridgeport Generation Now Votes is expected to endorse a mayoral candidate this Saturday.

“Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim touts economic growth during election year,” Connecticut Public, Eddy Martinez, May 31st, 2023

Bridgeport is ready for change – and Bridgeport voters are paying attention. Voters know Mayor Ganim recently continued his divestment from public education. Voters know his budgets have been full of gimmicks to plug holes. Voters know Ganim’s administration has been a mess – with high staff turnover, empty department head positions, and multiple scandals.

And voters have no confidence that Mayor Ganim can grow our city equitably, fairly, and compentently.

This year, we can elect a new mayor who is for the people! Join the Unrig Bridgeport coalition THIS Saturday, June 3rd at 10:00am for our Mayoral endorsement announcement. Come celebrate with us as we announce the candidate for Mayor who pledged to work on The People’s Platform! 🎉🎉🎉
