BRIDGEPORT – We learned yesterday that Marilyn Moore’s campaign did not qualify to be on the September 12, Democratic Primary ballot. Her supporters are waiting for a decision by the Working Families Party about whether they will endorse her, setting up what could be the most competitive general election Bridgeport has seen in decades.
Moore came close to beating Ganim in 2019. Winning at the polls only to lose by approximately 270 questionable absentee ballots. This year, Mayor Joe Ganim’s campaign and his cronies have been running scared, trying every trick in the book, desperate to convince people that Moore is somehow lacking support and Ganim has it in the bag. But they know the truth and so do we. In our initial polling, Lake Research Partners asked Bridgeport voters, “If the election were held today who would you support?” In this hypothetical match up, which included Mayor Joe Ganim, Senator Marilyn Moore, former Mayor Bill Finch, John Gomes, Lamond Daniels and former State Senator Dennis Bradley, Moore won. Ganim lost. Since then, Bridgeporter’s preference for Marilyn Moore as our next mayor has continued to grow. Since we launched our voter engagement campaign on June 3rd we have:
Phone banked or knocked on over 6,000 voters doors and had over 600 conversations about the issues and why Bridgeporter’s are ready for change
Done 3 rounds of text banking to over 40,000 Bridgeport voters citywide
Secured 1,000 pledges to vote
And of the voters we’ve spoken with, 65% were in support of Marilyn Moore for Mayor
So, here’s our official statement:
At Bridgeport Generation Now Votes we are fighting to increase voter turnout, strengthen democracy, and protect voting rights. Our work has and will always be about promoting all the levers needed for change. As such we are laser focused on advancing the issues Bridgeporter’s care most about.
Our Unrig Bridgeport coalition endorsed Senator Marilyn Moore because she is strong on the issues and because she pledged to work on the People’s Platform – a new blueprint for Bridgeport’s future. She is the only mayoral candidate with a proven track record of delivering results for the people of Bridgeport and taking on the political machine and winning.
While we are extremely disappointed that her campaign did not get the signatures required to appear on the Primary ballot, our work goes on. We are waiting to hear who the Working Families Party endorses before our coalition meets to make any decisions.
In the meantime, we will continue our work of educating voters on the issues, the candidates and getting out the vote for the rest of our People’s Slate; Tyler Mack, Akeem Boyd, Aidee Nieves, Maria Valle and Fred Hodges.
